Miami Beach Scrolls #1 and #2 is a diptych of South Beach. They are the first works in my new series of Miami Beach Scrolls, mixed media fiber art tapestries, woven by hand on my loom.
I wanted to celebrate the Glory Days (pre C-19) of glitz and bling in fabulous South Beach, so I used gold metallics on linens to lay the foundations. Then I wove in exotic tropical yarns, primarily in plumes of pink. And of course money, lots and lots of money, is interwoven with images of this lovely island paradise I call home. I framed the works with deep ocean teal/blue.
Take a tour during quarantine! The top section, Miami Beach Scroll #1, begins where "Middle Beach" and "South Beach" meet, by Dade Boulevard, just north of Lincoln Road. Play a round of golf on the meticulous Miami Beach Golf Course. Visit the Bass Museum of Art, the Miami Beach Botanical Garden and the Convention Center before stepping off into Scroll #2. Enjoy the frothy ocean depicted in waves of fringy teal yarns.
Traveling sounthward onto Scroll #2, enjoy people watching on fabulous Lincoln Road. Grab a bite, do some shopping on this historic mid-century pedestrian street. Continue south under the lush, shady canopy of Meridian Avenue or head over to Collins Ave. Either way your senses will be tickled with art deco and MIMO glam architecture. Ahh the Glory Days of Miami Beach!!
Your tour continues past Flamingo Park. Stop by, play some tennis before continuing to South Pointe all the way to the botton of the island, where you can watch cruise ships and freighters coming into Port Miami in the bright turquoise water of Government Cut.
I hope you have enjoyed your tour!
