URBAN THREADS is the next big project in development by PLY-Miami! We are creating a hand crocheted, mega mural in downtown Miami that will honor the legacy of Julia Tuttle, the only woman in the US who has ever founded a city. The year was 1896. Her influence brought Henry Flagler's railroad to South Florida which brought visitors, lots of visitors to a place where it never freezes. And our city was born.
2021 will mark the 125th birthday of the City of Miami. What better way to celebrate than with a mega mural created in Julia Tuttle's likeness, created entirely by Miami residents! Urban Threads is a project of cross cultural connectivity. We are inviting residents from all sectors of our community to participate in this extraordinary project. Each volunteer will be given yarn and instructions to crochet a portion of the mural. When all the pieces are made we will have a party to put them all together.
The completed project will be installed on a building downtown in early 2021 as the City celebrates its birthday.
All volunteers will be acknowledged for their contributions to Urban Threads.
We are recruiting people from community centers, groups, organizations, Girl Scout troops, senior centers, high school students, all ages and genders. Can't crochet? We will teach you!
Apply now to be part of this incredible project. Meet new people, learn a new skill, celebrate our unity.
