Miami Beach Glory Days is one long (46") continuous scroll. Mixed media, fiber art, Money Weaving, woven by hand on my loom.
I am celebrating the Glory Days (pre Covid-19) of glitz and bling in fabulous South Beach, so I used gold metallics on linens to lay the foundations. Then I wove in exotic tropical yarns, primarily in verdant hues of green. This island is always green, 365 days of the year! And of course I have to weave in money, money, money, lots and lots of money, interwoven with slices of this lovely island paradise I call home.
I created a top and bottom border of deep ocean teal/blue, representing the abundance of glorious water -- the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Biscayne Bay to the west.
Fun Fact: Miami Beach is a city on an island surrounded by water. We have our own government. We are NOT part of the City of Miami, we are NOT “Miami’s South Beach.” Miami doesn’t have a beach. The Beach is on this island, in the City of Miami Beach.
Let’s take a tour virtual during quarantine! Start at the top, the north end of “South Beach”
by Dade Boulevard, just north of Lincoln Road. Play a round of golf on the meticulous Miami Beach Golf Course. Get your fix of culture at the Bass Museum of Art and enjoy the verdant tropical paradise within this island paradise at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Now get ready for a delightful afternoon of people watching on fabulous Lincoln Road. Have a bite al fresco year round, do some shopping on this historic mid-century pedestrian street.
Next we continue south under the tunnel of Beauty Leaf trees that form the canopy along Meridian Avenue. Stop off at Flamingo Park, play some tennis before continuing south. Or head over to Collins Ave. Either way your senses will be tickled with art deco and MIMO glam architecture. Ahh the Glory Days of Miami Beach live on!!!
As we continue into South Beach take a dip in the sparkling turquoise ocean and watch the palms swaying in the breeze. Find refreshment on Ocean Drive - at one of the historic art deco hotel restaurants before heading all the way to where this island begins, at South Pointe. Watch the ships come in and out of Port Miami. Across the Bay you can see the City of Miami. Did I mention the turquoise water?
I hope you have enjoyed your tour!
