The Money Weavings
$$ The Money Weavings $$ are my signature series of mixed media contemporary fiber art works. Using money as a fiber material in my work adds a dimension and introspection. The money I use is real American currency in the form of $100 bills, taken out of circulation by the Federal Reserve Bank. They are crispy new, sliced into very thin strip. Perfect for weaving. The money works in well with other yarns and adds a dimension that provokes intorspection and dialog.
I design and create my tapestries by hand on complex looms using traditional techniques used worldwide. I manipulate them into contemporary relevance by extracting portions and substituting unexpected materials to express artistic vision.
The Money Weavings explore and celebrate ways in which money is invested in our lives. Living in the ever-changing, exotic destination
that is the City of Miami Beach, is in itself bountiful. A small tropical island in the turquoise Atlantic, surrounded by lush, vibrant foliage, it attracts the rich and famous with their bling and fast cars, stories and scandals.
